INGOLDSBY, THOMAS, ILLUSTRATED BY ERNEST M JESSOP: The Lay of St Aloys, a legend of Blois. London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, not dated but around 1885. First edition. Folio, un-paginated (34 pages, each printed on one side only). Each page has sepia illustrations, with the text printed in black and red. Original brown cloth spine, paper-covered boards with illustration printed in red and black. Edges of boards rubbed with some wear at the corners, occasional foxing last couple of pages but still the illustrations are generally very clean and unmarked...ideal for framing and at 14 1/2" x 10 1/2" they would be most impressive. The Spine has gone and the Boards are detached and rubbed and chipped but the titling is excellent and the spine could easily be replaced and re-bound. This is a most unusual old book from the Victorian era and should be of great interest to those interested in Religious History and Folk Lore.
