Australian Aboriginal WOOMERA or Spear Thrower - Circa 1900 - 1920

This 33 1/2" long (85 cm) antique Aboriginal Woomera or Spear Thrower dates to around the early 1900's as far as we can ascertain.... it is very difficult to give precise dating on such pieces but this is a genuine old one. The Woomera is in good preserved condition...it has a minor crack to bowl ...refer pictures.... but is complete with the peg and old bindings, plus the Spinifex Grass Gum nob to the handle end is in very good condition.The piece has no decorative markings but all the small carvers marks show clearly over the whole of it's length . Woomera's are also called 'Miru' by the indigenous Central Desert people and as well as being a Spear Thrower the curved interior section would be used like a Coolamon bowl for the preparation of food or preparing ochre for ceremonial purposes. A Coolamon is a bowl like a curved wooden tray which has been used by many Aboriginal tribes as a gathering tool. It is primarily used as a dish to hold food. This RARE AUTHENTIC Aboriginal artefact is very much a Collectors piece and most such pieces are generally held in museums or private collections.
