RARE English Greek Revival Mirror Black Glazed Pottery Vase - Circa 1860

RARE English Greek Revival Mirror Black Glazed Pottery Vase - Circa 1860
An absolutely fabulous rare GREEK REVIVAL Vase made by the Stoke on Trent Partnership of Bates Brown Westhead & Moore. The firm was originally called J. Ridgway, Bates & Co but a new firm was formed in 1859 and operated only until December 1862 when Bates retired. From 1862 to 1904 the Partnership traded as Brown Westhead, Moore & Co. The Vase stands 8 3/4" in height with a maximum diameter at center of 5 1/4" and condition is near perfect....no faults at all.The vase is beautifully decorated with a Greek Frieze to base and another near the handle area...there is gilding to the top rim and at base of the neck, plus to the handles, and foot.....and there are wonderful depictions of a Greek Warrior to one side and a Greek Angel to the other. A similar vase....the same shape and size but different decoration was exhibited at the BROOKLYN MUSEUM in 2013....may still be there? A Pair of GREEK REVIVAL VASES by the same maker have been offered on-line for US$2800...they are several inches ( height 13.5") larger and a different shape to ours and one has some damage. The vase exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum was not signed and nor is this one of ours although a serial number is present to base.
