'River Ouse - Ely' Oil on Board By John Charles Veitch Circa 1890 - 1900

John Charles Veitch was born in Stirling, Scotland, in 1853 and attended The Glasgow School of Art. He eventually emigrated to New Zealand sometime prior to 1914. He passed away in 1939. The piece measures 21 1/4" x 15 1/2" in its frame.....some minor restoration work is required. The painting is a lovely depiction of the Great Ouse River and the buildings along the waterfront including The Cutter Inn which is still in business to this day in the this original building. On the skyline is the huge imposing structure of ELY CATHEDRAL. It would be very nice to see this painting returned to ELY or to go to someone with links to the Cutter Inn or the town itself...I have visited the area a number of times and it was nostalgia that made me purchase the painting.
